This is the first game in the Fatal Fury series. It marks the appearance of Terry Bogard, a character appreciated by players. Geese Howard, the leader of South Town, killed Jeff Bogard, Terry Bogard's father and Andy Bogard, they vowed to avenge their father. Tung Fu Rue then decided to train Terry and Andy in martial arts. A few years later, Geese announced the King of Fighters tournament. Terry and Andy, accompanied by their friend Joe Higashi, signed up for the King of Fighters in the hope of reaching the final round against Geese, and taking revenge on Jeff.
